A Rainbow of Irises collection, "Lyrical Lavender" by Sharon Rickert. Fourth issue of the series. The bradford exchange, 1995. Plate size approx. 8.5 by 6.5 inches, Oval plate. Suggested retail $50.00.

Continuing your leisurely stroll through the colorful iris garden that flourishes at the rainbow's end, you soon turn your attention to an amazing sight.

Three unopened blossoms catch your eye, for they appear to be flawless purple jewels nestled in brilliant gold settings. But even this is not their most beautiful state, for standing alongside are two flowers in glorious full bloom, their lavender petals unfurled in a magnificent display. The delicate irises and the surrounding cluster of asters prove to be irresistible to two black and yellow butterflies that have fluttered in for a closer look.

This is "Lyrical Lavender," the lovely fourth issue in artist Sharon Rickert's A Rainbow of Irises series of oval limited-edition collector's plates. Throughout this wonderful series, Ms. Rickert has rendered amazingly realistic works—just look at all of the color and detail she has incorporated in "Lyrical Lavender." Multiple shades of purple and white shape the flower petals; the tiny butterfly wings are carefully defined, as are the petals and leaves of the pink asters. Ms. Rickert's work is truly superior—and makes a fine addition to beautiful series!

The creation of the fine collector's plate you have just acquired and whose authenticity is certified by this document is the result of work by many skilled artisans. After the plate art was created in the United States, a fine ceramic transfer, incorporating pigments carefully chosen to faithfully re-create the vibrant beauty of the artist's original, was created in France and Germany and permanently fired into the fine Japanese porcelain plate body at more than 1,460° Fahrenheit by talented craftsmen and craftswomen in the U.S.
