Footsteps of the Brave -- "The Noble Quest" by artist Harry Schaare -- Bradford Exchange 1993 -- First plate in this series. Plate size is approx 8 inches. Suggested Retail $60.00
A vast herd of buffalo waits on the prairie. Soon the age-old dance of life and death will begin. But first the Blackfoot warrior named White Bear comes to a sacred place in the woods and lifts his arms and his voice to heaven, asking the Great Spirit to bless him this day.
The buffalo hunt was a necessary but dangerous business. Necessary because the giant animals provided most of the meat, clothing and tepee coverings for the tribe. Dangerous because angry 2000 pound beasts with razor-sharp horns could quickly end the life of a horse or a man.
Riding fleet buffalo ponies, the warriors would herd the beasts in a circle and then dart among the enraged animals firing arrows or hurling lances. If his pony was toppled, the warrior's only option was to leap onto the back of the nearest buffalo and race over the backs of the herd to safety.
So you can understand the earnestness in this brave hunter's face as he prays to the Great Spirit. The work of widely acclaimed Western artist Harry Schaare, "The Noble Quest" is charged with human feeling and authentic detail. It is a plate you will treasure for years to come.
The creation of the fine collector's plate you have just acquired and whose authenticity is certified by this document is the result of work by an international cadre of skilled artisans. After the plate art was created in the United States, a fine ceramic transfer, incorporating pigments carefully chosen to faithfully re-create the vibrant beauty of the artist's original, was created in France and Germany and permanently fired into the fine Japanese porcelain plate body at more than 1,460° Fahrenheit by talented craftsmen and craftswomen in the United States.
