The arid canyons and mud-baked arroyos of the painted land called Arizona—or "Silver Slabs" in the white man's tongue—lie dusty and parched under the searing, white-hot sun. Rain has not fallen for a full turn of the moon, and the maize crops are scorched. If rain doesn't come soon the Cherokee tribe will suffer greatly this winter.
The mighty chieftain, Warrior Horse, somberly dons his finest eagle feather warbonnet and quilled breastplate. He paints his war pony with the symbols for courage, speed, and luck. They will need them, for Warrior Horse must go out in the desert to plea to the Great Spirit to save his people.
Standing on a windswept bluff, Warrior Horse shouts a prayer all day to the cloudless heavens, calling as one great warrior to another. Eyes shut, he does not see the vast swells of bruise-colored clouds roiling from the west until a sudden sizzling crack of lightning jolts Warrior Horse from his trance. The sky opens to release a torrent of life-giving rain. As the drenched Warrior Horse laughs with utter joy, an old man's face appears in the violet billows, smiling down in approval at his devoted brave.
The creation of the fine collector's plate you have just acquired and whose authenticity is certified by this document is the result of work by an international cadre of skilled artisans. After the plate art was created in the United States, a fine ceramic transfer, incorporating pigments carefully chosen to faithfully re-create the vibrant beauty of the artist's original, was created in France and Germany and permanently fired into the fine Japanese porcelain plate body at more than 1,460° Fahrenheit by talented craftsmen and craftswomen in the United States.
