"Dad, do you really think the chickadees will be back this year?' I looked down at my four-year-old son. We had finished raking the leaves and were hanging our sunflower feeder for the winter. I wanted to give him the complete assurance he was searching for.
"Well Willy, I hope so. I can't imagine why not. They sure like to eat sunflower seeds."
"But Dad, will they really come?" I laughed. I didn't know why Willy had taken such a liking to the birds. Last winter he loved to sit by the window and watch as the chickadees darted about with seemingly boundless energy.
"Willy buddy, we'll just have to wait and see."
The next morning, soon after the sun had broken through the clear cool air, we were aroused by a very excited boy. "They're here! The chickadees are here!"
An entire flock of chickadees
was fluttering about our feeder, darting back and forth, hardly sitting still for a minute. They were hack again for the winter.
