The man stood before the emissary of Caesar, his prison grime and tattered robe incongruous amid the sumptuous luxury that was Herod's palace. Herod's bodyguards watch grimly as this Jesus of Nazareth remains silent to Herod's demands.

"Perform a miracle for me, Jesus!" orders Herod as his painted slaves and syncophants snigger and the chief priests sneer. Jesus only stands quietly, his dark, gentle eyes observing Herod sorrowfully — almost as if the prisoner were pitying the judge.

Infuriated at Jesus' lack of response to his taunting, Herod orders the prisoner garbed in rich robes of purple and crimson and tells the guards to send him back to Pilate — for he sees no harm in him that a good beating wouldn't cure. The priests and scribes snarl, "Crucify the blasphemer!" hut Herod ignores them — perhaps feeling a small sense of shame under those keenly understanding eyes — refusing to burden himself with the innocent blood of Christ.

Acclaimed artist and Christian Christopher Nick portrays this dramatic moment in the life of Christ with passion, eloquence and reverence for The Light of the World.

The creation of the fine collector's plate you have just acquired and whose authenticity is certified by this document is the result of work by an international cadre of skilled artisans. After the plate art was created in the United States, a fine ceramic transfer, incorporating pigments carefully chosen to faithfully re-create the vibrant beauty of the artist's original, was created in France and Germany and permanently fired into the fine Japanese porcelain plate body at more than 1,460° Fahrenheit by talented craftsmen and craftswomen in the United States.
