Light of the World collection, "Prayer in the Garden" by Christopher Nick. Fourth issue of the series. The bradford exchange, 1996. Plate size approx. 8.5 by 6.5 inches. Suggested retail $55.00.
Over the brook called the Cedron, in the lush garden of Gethsemane, a man who was both humble carpenter and esteemed rabbi came face to face with His greatest trial. "0 my Father. if it be possible. let ibis cup pass from me nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt."
Like any ordinary man Jesus Christ feared the pain of death, and was racked with doubts of the promise that lay beyond. Yet, as the Son of God, He also knew that the promise of salvation was a true one; a promise that would extend beyond Jesus to believers in faraway lands and down endless centuries. His was the last sacrifice, yet it was a hitter cup indeed. But even as Jesus prayed, He knew that even if there were a way, He would not accept it. For such was His love for us that He would willingly die on the cross to preserve our hope of eternal salvation.
Acclaimed artist Christopher Nick presents this epic testament to Jesus' humanity as He struggles and finally accepts the bitter cup of fate. Suffused with rich hues, Jesus glows with holy light as three disciples slumber in the shadows, and sheep—symbols of sacrifice—gather near our anguished Lord.
The creation of the fine collector's plate you have just acquired and whose authenticity is certified by this document is the result of work by an international cadre of skilled artisans. After the plate art was created in the United States, a fine ceramic transfer, incorporating pigments carefully chosen to faithfully re-create the vibrant beauty of the artist's original, was created in France and Germany and permanently fired into the fine Japanese porcelain plate body at more than 1,460° Fahrenheit by talented craftsmen and craftswomen in the United States.
