Lords of the Forest and Canyon collection, "Forest Emperor" by Greg Beecham. Fourth issue in this series. Bradford Exchange, 1994. Plate size approx. 8.25 inches. Suggested retail $60.00.
Deep in the mist-shrouded forest of towering pine, a sleek, sinewy form glides like a ghost through the sun-dappled wood. His huge, padded paws are utterly soundless over the rich, mossy loam and pine needles. Pausing by an ancient, fallen giant of the forest, the golden cougar scents the pungent perfume of wildflowers, pine, moisture-rich vegetation...and deer!
With an uncanny perceptiveness into the steely strength and lordly glory that is the elusive North American cougar, acclaimed wildlife artist Greg Beecham reveals this Emperor of the Forest in all his haunting grace. Touched by Midas, the cougar gleams like a statue of burnished gold, his deep-set eyes burning like a goldsmith's priceless forge. The eyelids hood the keen intelligence and simmering power that is never far from erupting into snarling fury when defending his forest throne from usurpers. His spine-tingling scream echos for miles in the majestic cathedrals of virgin forests.
Nearly extinct, the cougar is recovering thanks to the dedicated efforts of those such as artist Greg Beecham who love the wild beauty of these great-hearted Emperors.
The creation of the fine collector's plate you have just acquired and whose authenticity is certified by this document is the result of work by an international cadre of skilled artisans. After the plate art was created in the United States, a fine ceramic transfer, incorporating pigments carefully chosen to faithfully re-create the vibrant beauty of the artist's original, was created in France and Germany and permanently fired into the fine Japanese porcelain plate body at more than 1,4600 Fahrenheit by talented craftsmen and craftswomen in the United States.
