Sure-footed, stealthy, silent as a golden cloud, a cougar steps easily along a cliff high in the Rocky Mountains. Amber eyes are narrowed with intensity and burn with a fierce and eager flame. The head and shoulders are lowered as if it is preparing to spring. And under the dense golden pelt that blends with the sunlit rocks and winter-dried grasses, powerful muscles ripple with every movement. Woe to its prey, for the cougar is a mighty hunter.

In "Proud Legacy," second plate in his Lords of the Forest and Canyon series, wildlife artist and dedicated conservationist Greg Beecham creates a fascinating montage portrait of this mighty monarch of mountain, desert, and marshland—showing both the creature's incredible grace as it crouches for attack, and the dignity inherent in its noble head.

This great feline was revered
by the Chickasaw Indians as the "Cat of God"—a great hunter respected for its strength and agility. But so reclusive is the cougar that few people ever see more than its tracks. Now with "Proud Legacy," you can view the cougar whenever you choose.

The creation of the fine collector's plate you have just acquired and whose authenticity is certified by this document is the result of work by an international cadre of skilled artisans. After the plate art was created in the United States, a fine ceramic transfer, incorporating pigments carefully chosen to faithfully re-create the vibrant beauty of the artist's original, was created in France and Germany and permanently fired into the fine Japanese porcelain plate body at more than 1,460° Fahrenheit by talented craftsmen and craftswomen in the United States.
