Gazing into his haunting face, it is no wonder that the red wolf has long been a figure of mysticism, awe, and chilling legend. Yet the truth behind those burning eyes of Spanish gold is that this wolf is a gentle, nurturing creature, with the inherent nobility and soulful spirit of a lonely, determined survivor.

By 1980, the red wolf was hunted to extinction in the wild. Of the few surviving in captivity, most were not genetically pure red wolves, having been cross-bred with coyotes. For the first time, a program was developed to breed true red wolves and re-introduce them into safe wildlife environments. In 1987, amid a storm of controversy, ten wolves were released into Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge in North Carolina. Today, six are still free and breeding successfully, and 26 more were added from captivity.

Celebrate their slow, yet
triumphant return from extinction every time you peer into the steady eyes of the red wolf with this striking collector's plate image by famed wildlife artist Vivi Crandall. Let it captivate your imagination and fire your soul in communion with his unquenchable, free spirit.

The creation of the fine collector's plate you have just acquired and whose authenticity is certified by this document is the result of work by an international cadre of skilled artisans. After the plate art was created in the United States, a fine ceramic transfer, incorporating pigments carefully chosen to faithfully re-create the vibrant beauty of the artist's original, was created in France and Germany and permanently fired into the fine Japanese porcelain plate body at more than 1,4600 Fahrenheit by talented craftsmen and craftswomen in the United States.
