Mystic Spirits -- "Silent Night" by Vivi Crandall

Mystic Spirits -- Silent Night by Vivi Crandall -- Seventh in the series. The Bradford Exchange -- Certificate -- Production date 1995 -- Plate size approx 8 inches -- Suggested Retail $60.00

His piercing eyes and erect ears show that this noble timber wolf is searching the moonlit terrain for the sight and listening for the sound of prey. It is easy to imagine that sharp nose twitching in an attempt to catch a telltale scent.

But it is no use. There is not a hint of prey. This silent night will yield no food for the wolfs hungry pack. Winter is harsh in this far northern land and often even a master hunter must go hungry.

Wildlife artist Vivi Crandall creates a portrait so real that we can almost imagine being there in the frozen night, seeing the moonlight turn the wolfs thick fur to gold and spark a gleam in his eye.

Snow is beginning to fall, but the wolf will ignore it. His heavy coat of fur, underscored with a second layer, keeps him warm and dry in the heaviest blizzard.

Soon he will find himself a snowbank and curl up to sleep. When the sun rises again he will continue his search. But he knows that for now he must conserve his energy. He must be strong for the hunt and the final chase when prey is found. Man has learned from the wolf that the wise hunter waits until he is certain of success.

The creation of the fine collectors plate you have just acquired and whose authenticity is certified by this document is the result of work by an international cadre of skilled artisans. After the plate art was created in the United States, a fine ceramic transfer, incorporating pigments carefully chosen to faithfully re-create the vibrant beauty of the artist's original, was created in France and Germany and permanently fired into the fine Japanese porcelain plate body at more than 1,460° Fahrenheit by talented craftsmen and craftswomen in the United States.
