Dancing Arrow was given a vision. A woodpecker talked to him and said, "Return to your village and make the beautiful maiden Willow Flower your wife."
But Dancing Arrow protested, I am only a young brave; I have not proven my courage. I have no horses for her father."
"You will be a great warrior. The wise leader of your people," said the woodpecker. "Search for a lila wakan (very sacred) white eagle feather and give it to her."
Dancing Arrow did as he was told. For seven days he searched until the woodpecker returned, "The feather you are searching for adorns her hair. Return to your people and tell them everything I have said."
But Dancing Arrow was mocked. Look, they said, Willow Flower has no lila wakan feather. just the crow feather she always
wears. But as they laughed, her feather turned to a shimmering white. Willow Flower was forever know as "White Feather" and all the woodpecker told Dancing Arrow came true.
