His other name is Duck Hawk, but few species of birds are safe from this large predatory raptor. He will take on even swifts—who are safe from most other raptors. When he is in pursuit of a hapless waterbird, his diving speed can reach two hundred miles an hour. Capable of incredibly agile maneuvers to catch his victims, he has surely earned the name "Master of the Chase."

This formidable creature is the Peregrine Falcon, subject of the fourth issue in artist Robert R. Copple's unprecedented New Horizons collection of limited-edition plates. Mr. Copple is an expert nature photographer who has devised a way of combining his fine-art paintings and his nature photography on one canvas, achieving a powerful image that could never be obtained by painting or photography alone. In "Master of the Chase," Mr. Copple's famed Illusionary Images technique captures the Peregrine Falcon at a moment of rest, his slate-gray body and barred underparts perfectly blending into the lichen-covered ledge where he perches. An imposing bird—exquisitely portrayed by a master wildlife artist of our time!

The creation of the fine collector's plate you have just acquired and whose authenticity is certified by this document is the result of work by an international cadre of skilled artisans. After the plate art was created in the United States, a fine ceramic transfer, incorporating pigments carefully chosen to faithfully re-create the vibrant beauty of the artist's original, was created in France and Germany and permanently fired into the fine Japanese porcelain plate body at more than 1,460° Fahrenheit by talented craftsmen and craftswomen in the United States.
