Night Songs: The Loon collection, "Peaseful Homestead" by Jim Hansel. Eighth issue in the series. Bradford Exchange, 1994. Plate size approx. 8 inches. Suggested Retail Price $60.00.

It is midnight, and although lamplight still illuminates the little cabin at the edge of this secluded north-woods lake, it is an hour when most wild creatures are asleep. The brilliant full moon reveals that two, at least, are still awake—a ruby-eyed common loon and her faithful, lifelong mate.

She sits on a floating reed nest, warming a clutch of eggs. He swims nearby, alert to any hint of danger, ready to dive for a tasty fish whenever his love desires one.

The pair have raised family after family, year after year, on this remote lake. Without such a quiet, peaceful place to raise their young, they will not breed at all. This lake is perfect for them; and hopefully, it will remain that way. For if the loon stops breeding, the earth will lose one of its oldest and most noble inhabitants and its haunting song will be heard no more.

"Peaceful Homestead" is the eighth plate in Jim Hansel's collection, Night Song: The Loon. Once again, Mr. Hansel's richly realistic detail, his use of deep color and dramatic composition, create an unforgettable moonlit moment. Re-created on fine porcelain for you to enjoy again and again.

The creation of the fine collector's plate you have just acquired and whose authenticity is certified by this document is the result of work by an international cadre of skilled artisans. After the plate art was created in the United States, a fine ceramic transfer, incorporating pigments carefully chosen to faithfully re-create the vibrant beauty of the artist's original, was created in France and Germany and permanently fired into the fine Japanese porcelain plate body at more than 1,460° Fahrenheit by talented craftsmen and craftswomen in the United States.
