Northwoods Spirit - "Timberland Gaze" by David Wenzel. Fourth plate in the series. Bradford exchange, 1994. Plate size approx 8 inches. Suggested retail $55.00.
In the cool thick of the forest, where sunlight scarcely penetrates the dense foliage, he listens acutely to every crackle and every rustle that emanate from miles around him.
His sense of smell is so keenly developed, he knows your exact location long before you ever see him. He lurks like a silent shadow across the ground, slipping effortlessly between the thin sapling tentacles that struggle to reach the sky.
He is the Grey Wolf. The majestic spirit of the woods. His stealthy prowess and unnerving stare seem to surround you.
In "Timberland Gaze," fourth plate in the Northwoods Spirit collection, David Wenzel displays his rare talent and remarkable eye for detail. The weathered trees and sapient tone bring a stunning and dramatic presence to this magnificent plate; and the stark realism of "Timberland Gaze" gives it an astoundingly tangible quality. One can almost feel his sleek, thick fur and sense his ominous presence. The Grey Wolf is truly one of nature's most intriguing and profound creatures.
The creation of the fine collector's plate you have just acquired and whose authenticity is certified by this document is the result of work by an international cadre of skilled artisans. After the plate art was created in the United States, a fine ceramic transfer, incorporating pigments carefully chosen to faithfully re-create the vibrant beauty of the artist's original, was created in France and Germany and permanently fired into the fine Japanese porcelain plate body at more than 1,460° Fahrenheit by talented craftsmen and craftswomen in the United States.
