Northwoods Spirit - "Woodland Retreat" by David Wenzel. Second plate in the series. Bradford exchange, 1995. Plate size approx 8 inches. Suggested retail $55.00.
Imagine yourself hiking in a tangled birch forest somewhere in the remote vastness of the northern woods. The silence and solitude bring tranquility to your soul as you stride through the golden-veiled haze of an autumn dusk.
Suddenly you're startled by an explosive scattering of fallen leaves and a speeding grey blur. You catch a fleeting glimpse of a large, ghostly figure slipping away in the shadows. Your presence alarmed an animal that had been crouching in concealment almost under your nose, watching you for who knows how long. But what was it?
For one breathless instant it pauses and turns to look back...the luxuriant, grizzled pelt, curling, feathery tail, and two amber eyes gazing at you with an uncanny intelligence, gleaming in their depths like twin lanterns in the night. You meet its mesmerizing stare for a timeless moment. Then, with dignified grace, the Grey Wolf retreats, melting away into the mist...its curiosity satisfied.
Pay homage to the great-hearted Lord of the Forest, the grey wolf, in this stunningly realistic plate series by acclaimed wildlife artist David Wenzel.
The creation of the line collector's plate you have just acquired and whose authenticity is certified by this document is the result of work by an international cadre of skilled artisans. After the plate art was created in the United States, a fine ceramic transfer, incorporating pigments carefully chosen to faithfully re-create the vibrant beauty of the artist's original, was created in France and Germany and permanently fired into the fine Japanese porcelain plate body at more than 1,460° Fahrenheit by talented craftsmen and craftswomen in the United States.
