Sammy and Chester have had a wonderful day! Galloping, chasing, tumbling headlong over each other, these two rambunctious kittens play nonstop! Dashing amid the petunias and scampering wildly under the hedgerows, they try to fly like the songbirds with every spontaneous, enthusiastic leap. A human watcher might almost imagine their shrieks of delight and peals of giggling laughter.

The chase is on again. They hurtle headlong up spruce boughs and down, then circle four times around the rain barrel before heading up a weathered Conestoga wagon wheel that gracefully decorates the garden.

Suddenly their play stops. Seated primly on a bush not two feet away are visitors ... two tiny finches, gazing with as keen a curiosity as the kittens feel gazing right back. Perhaps in that moment the kittens wonder what it would be like to fly. And perhaps the finches are wondering what playful joy they could share if only they had four soft-mittened paws.

You can't help but smile at Persis Weirs's darling, rib-tickling moment of surprise between two of nature's most adorable comedians — birds and kittens.

The creation of the fine collector's plate you have just acquired and whose authenticity is certified by this document is the result of work by an international cadre of skilled artisans. After the plate art was created in the U.S., a fine ceramic transfer, incorporating pigments carefully chosen to faithfully recreate the vibrant beauty of the artist's original, was made in France and Germany and permanently fired into the fine Japanese porcelain plate body at more than 1,460° Fahrenheit by talented craftsmen and craftswomen in the U.S.
