What image is more endearing than the sight of a mother holding a sleeping babe to her? He clings to her, his world, with tiny, helpless fists. She enwreathes him in her arms, inclines her head to protect him, and breathes in the sweet perfume of his infant head. And though the child be Jesus and the mother, Mary, the sense of tender devotion of a mother for her child is universal.

In "Devotion," Plate Two for Our Heavenly Mother, artist Hector Garrido uses one of the most familiar and moving images in the world to draw the viewer in. Yet, through his expert interpretation in the Renaissance style, he exalts his subject by moving the horizon line to the very bottom of the scene. The Virgin Mary and the Child Jesus rise above the earth, worthy examples of perfection.

Ensconced in the clouds, tiny adoring cherubim clinging to Her robes, She never removes her attention from the most important thing to Her in heaven and earth — Her Child. And by thus arranging the elements of the scene, the artist shows that the devotion of the Blessed Mother for Her earthly children is as unswerving and steadfast as to Her Heavenly Child.

The creation of the fine collector's plate you have just acquired and whose authenticity is certified by this document is the result of work by an international cadre of skilled artisans. After the plate art was created in the U.S., a fine ceramic transfer, incorporating pigments carefully chosen to faithfully recreate the vibrant beauty of the artist's original, was made in France and Germany and permanently fired into the fine Japanese porcelain plate body at more than 1,460° Fahrenheit by talented craftsmen and craftswomen in the U.S.
