As a glorious sunrise fills this peaceful canyon with its golden brilliance, a steam train, its headlight shining in the morning haze, chugs steadfastly over a trestle bridge spanning a pristine mountain river. A cozy log house perched on the embankment glows with light as a family prepares for the new day. This is "Daybreak," Plate Two in the Pathways of the Heart collection, artist Jesse Barnes's salute to the spectacular beauty of a mountain sunrise.
Mr. Barnes's special talent for creating dramatic effects of light and shadow gives "Daybreak" the emotive charm that has made his work famous (he is renowned as The Light Paintern"). The gleaming rays emanating from the clouds and illuminating the mountains provide a stunning contrast to the cool green forest and gray-blue water, the smoke-colored cabin and the ebony-hued train.
