Peace on Earth -"Winter Lullaby" by Duane Geisness. First issue in the series. Bradford Exchange, 1993. Plate size approx 8 inches. Suggested retail $70.00
Icy cold wind that whistles in the trees; driving snow that quickly covers the world in white; a chill that reaches to the bones. Such a blustery winter storm in the heart of the wilderness would be enough to drive even the hardiest of souls to a warm, safe haven. But these two wolves seem quite content to enjoy a much more intimate view of winter's majesty and power. To them, the relentless sounds of the storm have become a soothing lullaby. Huddled closely together under a canopy of snow-laden branches, and with their thick coat providing all the warmth they need, they have discovered the best way to ride out this winter fury—with a blissful nap.
"Winter Lullaby" is the mesmerizing first issue in Peace on Earth, a new series of limited-edition collector's plates by celebrated wildlife artist Duane Geisness, who presents familiar wildlife in harmony with the serene, pristine beauty of winter. In this remarkable work. Mr. Geisness instills his wolves with qualities that seem almost human: companionship, protectiveness, perseverance, and devotion. Indeed, "Winter Lullaby" is a glorious debut to an inspiring collection!
The creation of the collector's plate you have just acquired and whose authenticity is certified by this document is the result of work by an international cadre of skilled artisans. After the plate art was created in the United States, a fine ceramic transfer, incorporating pigments carefully chosen to faithfully re-create the artist's original, was created in France and Germany and permanently fired into the fine Japanese porcelain plate body at more than 1,460° Fahrenheit by talented artisans in the United States.
