Pinegrove's Winter Cardinals collection, "Evening in Pinegrove" by Sam Timm. First issue in the series. Bradford Exchange, 1993. Plate size approx 8 inches. Suggested retail $60.00.
Late in the year, evening comes all too early. Leaving a dreamy orange afterglow but none of its warmth, the sun yields its place to a frosty night sky that quickly envelops the countryside with its dark-blue mantle.
But in Pinegrove tonight, there is an especially cheerful glow. Perhaps it's nothing more than the brightly lit houses, or the colorful windows of the village church, where choir practice for the Christmas holidays has been going on all afternoon. Or is it possible that this winter landscape derives its special charm from the pair of brightly colored cardinals who dominate the snowy vista of "Evening in Pinegrove," Plate One in Sam Timm's Pinegrove's Winter Cardinals? Perched on the pine boughs and bits of holly that decorate an old-fashioned porch railing, they seem to be the only living creatures daring enough to spend this cold evening outside – colorful, constant companions to anyone lucky enough to spend a day in the picturebook town of Pinegrove.
The creation of the fine collector's plate you have just acquired and whose authenticity is certified by this document is the result of work by an international cadre of skilled artisans. After the plate art was created in the United States, a fine ceramic transfer, incorporating pigments carefully chosen to faithfully re-create the vibrant beauty of the artist's original, was created in France and Germany and permanently fired into the fine Japanese porcelain plate body at more than 1,460° Fahrenheit by talented craftsmen and craftswomen in the United States.
