"Oh, spirits, here is a child who has been given to us...give him good fortune we ask of you." From a Tewa Indian prayer
Soft winds caress the loving pair as a Native American mother symbolically brings her new infant into the world. Soon the midwife who helped to deliver the child will offer it to the spirits, asking their protection. Then she will give the child a secret name, thus bringing it from a state of darkness, in which it had no identity, to the status of a human being...and starting it off on the path of life.
This tender ceremony, practiced in different ways by the Native Americans of various tribes, is depicted by celebrated artist Lee Bogle in a breathtaking demonstration of his award-wining artistry. He blends a realistic view of the mother and child with an almost mystical impression of wind, blanket and feathered drama.
The young mother, wearing eagle and hawk feathers to put her in touch with the spirits and a puffed feather for peace, holds her child in loving closeness. "Gentle Embrace" is a richly spiritual beginning to your Sacred Bond series.
The creation of the fine collector's plate you have just acquired and whose authenticity is certified by this document is the result of work by an international cadre of skilled artisans. After the plate art was created in the United States, a fine ceramic transfer, incorporating pigments carefully chosen to faithfully re-create the vibrant beauty of the artist's original, was created in France and Germany and permanently fired into the fine Japanese porcelain plate body at more than 1,4600 Fahrenheit by talented craftsmen and craftswomen in the United States.
