A ritual of the Omaha tribe called Turning the Child is held each spring for all the children who have begun to walk during the previous year. Each child brings new moccasins which are placed on his feet at the end of the ceremony. He then takes four steps, symbolizing his entrance into the life of the tribe.

A Native American mother holds her infant in a warm embrace, showing her love and devotion to the sleeping child. She dreams of the many future ceremonies that will celebrate his growing up.

His first laugh will call for a party at which gifts are given. His first steps, even his first hair cut, will be hailed with a special party. Rituals vary from tribe to tribe, but there is always a celebration.

Once again, the affection that Native Americans display for every special moment in the lives of their children is warmly expressed by celebrated artist Lee Bogle with his award-winning artistry. Combining light and shadow with breathtaking realism, and such sacred symbols as the mother's eagle and loon feathers and intricately patterned blanket, he reveals the intense spirituality of Native Americans.

The creation of the fine collector's plate you have just acquired and whose authenticity is certified by this document is the result of work by an international cadre of skilled artisans. After the plate art was created in the United States, a fine ceramic transfer, incorporating pigments carefully chosen to faithfully re-create the vibrant beauty of the artist's original, was created in France and Germany and permanently fired into the fine Japanese porcelain plate body at more than 1,460° Fahrenheit by talented craftsmen and craftswomen in the United States.
