Timberland Secrets collection, "Gentle Awakening" by Linda Daniels. Second issue in the series. Bradford Exchange, 1995. Certificate of Authenticity. Plate size approx 8.5 by 6.5 inches, oval. Suggested retail $55.00.

The one-month-old wolf cubs are snuggled together like two commas, their thick, luxuriant pelts keeping them cozy and wonderfully warm even in the frigid, snow-laden air. The kindly pine tree shelters them from the icy winds and chilling snow, and lulls them to sleep with the crystalline chimes of its ice-caked needles. In its dark, fragrant cover, the cubs slumber blissfully on a verdant bed of bright green moss, last year's soft needles, and tiny spring flowers bravely peeping from amid the thawing crusts of snow.
The gray cub's lustrous eyes slowly edge open as a familiar scent wafts past his keen nose. Mama Wolf is coming toward their snug haven.

The cub's furry ears prick up in anticipation, and he comes fully awake, jarring his snoozing packmate. The red cub scarcely stirs, reluctant to awaken from a canine dream of running,
leaping, and singing at the moon. It is spring — a time for new birth and "Gentle Awakening."

Celebrate the first stirrings of spring with this darling portrayal of two sleepy-eyed wolf cubs in the second issue of Timberland Secrets by acclaimed artist Linda Daniels.
