The wind sends a light cascade of snow tumbling from a tree branch like a glittering shower of stars. It settles upon the thick, hoary pelts of these two alpha wolves, male
and female, mates for life. The rest of their pack — a large one, including their last, half-grown litter, various aunts and uncles, and a tagalong loner, hoping to someday be accepted — wait for their leaders behind the ridge.

The wind carries the tantalizing, musky scent of a herd of migrating caribou, numbering well into the thousands. The wolves have followed this herd all the way from the frozen tundra in the Arctic Circle to their winter home here in the sheltered river valleys and endless pine forests of Canada. The wolf pack has fed well from the crippled, sick and aged caribou. They don't know their hunting helps cull the herd, strengthening it for future generations. They only
know the thrill of the chase, the wind in their ruffed faces, and the joy of singing the success of the hunt to the moon.

Wildlife artist Linda Daniels celebrates the free, proud spirit of the wolf in this stunning portrait of two wolves on watch.

The creation of the fine collector's plate you have just acquired and whose authenticity is certified by this document is the result of work by an international cadre of skilled artisans. After the plate art was created in the United States, a fine ceramic transfer, incorporating pigments carefully chosen to faithfully re-create the vibrant beauty of the artist's original, was created in France and Germany and permanently fired into the fine Japanese porcelain plate body at more than 1,460° Fahrenheit by talented craftsmen and craftswomen in the United States.
