Untamed Spirits collection, "Wild Hearts" by Persis Clayton Weirs. First issue in this series. Bradford Exchange, 1993. Plate size approx. 8.25 inches. Suggested retail $70.00.
The emerging dawn reveals an almost other worldly sight. Two beautiful white horses race along the shore of a wilderness lake, their alabaster bodies shining in the misty light, giving them a ghostlike appearance. Their thundering hooves stir the breaking waves into a spray that sparkles with the brilliance of diamonds. They are living symbols of joyous freedom!
This is "Wild Hearts," premier plate in Untamed Spirits, a new collection of wild mustang portraits by celebrated wildlife artist Persis Clayton Weirs. Once again, Ms. Weirs displays her extraordinary mastery of equine art, and her magical way with the effects of light.
There is power and beauty and an almost spiritual quality about this portrait of two magnificent and absolutely free wild horses. In a day when we think of horses as only docile domesticated animals, Ms. Weirs gives us a different look at what is truly one of the world's most beautiful creatures. As re-created on fine porcelain, her vivid portrayal will be an inspiration for years to come.
The creation of the fine collector's plate you have just acquired and whose authenticity is certified by this document is the result of work by an international cadre of skilled artisans. After the plate art was created in the United States, a fine ceramic transfer, incorporating pigments carefully chosen to faithfully re-create the vibrant beauty of the artist's original, was created in France and Germany and permanently fired into the fine Japanese porcelain plate body at more than 1,460° Fahrenheit by talented craftsmen and craftswomen in the United States.
