Visions of the Sacred "Snow Rider" by Linda Mendaris. First of the series. Bradford Exchange 1993. Suggested Retail $60.00.
In the frigid darkness of a deep forest ravine, a luminous cloud of snow tumbles down the rocky hillside, blanketing nearby aspen and evergreens. From within the icy mist emerges a ghostly figure on horseback, howling with the battle cry of an ancient warrior who has come to deliver his blustery blessing to the earth. It is Yata, the North Wind, who resides in the cold regions of the pines.
Long ago, Yata and his three spirit brothers were chosen by Skan, the Great Spirit, to establish the four directions, or Taluyetopa, and the fourth time. The fourth time would be called waniyetu, the year, and would be divided into four seasons of three moons each.
Skan decided that each of the brothers should govern his own season. Eya, the West Wind, would control the fall; Yata, the North Wind, would rule the winter; Yanpa, the East Wind, would command the spring; and Okaga, the South Wind, would govern the summer.
In "Snow Rider," Plate One in Visions of the Sacred, acclaimed artist Linda Medaris portrays the ancient spirit of Yata, whose icy presence still rules the rugged land.
The creation of the fine collector's plate you have just acquired and whose authenticity is certified by this document is the result of work by an international cadre of skilled artisans. After the plate art was created in the United States, a fine ceramic transfer, incorporating pigments carefully chosen to faithfully re-create the vibrant beauty of the artist's original, was created in France and Germany and permanently fired into the fine Japanese porcelain plate body at more than 1,460° Fahrenheit by talented craftsmen and craftswomen in the United States.
