All know that the Earth is an island resting on the back of a colossal turtle. Above the clouds that sail over this island of Earth, among the loftiest tiers of heaven, the awesome Thunderbirds make their dwelling.
Mighty deities, the Thunderbirds bring blessed rain to nourish the crops and grass that feed the People and the Buffalo. The beating of their wings is thunder, the flashing of their fierce eyes is lightning. Capable of enormous destruction, the Thunderbirds are generally kind, though will impart swift justice upon evil men.
The arch enemies of the Thunderbirds are the Giant Homed Snakes who abide in the dark regions below the Great Turtle. Their battles bring earthquakes, floods, and storms to the cosmos.
The American Indians dedicated the sacred Sun Dance ritual to the Thunderbirds. They donned capes made of the feathers of the high-flying golden eagle to call them from their heaven to bring the rain to save the People.
Feel the elemental glory of this mighty force of Nature in Diana Stanley's powerful depictions of American Indian lore and legend.
The creation of the fine collector's plate you have just acquired and whose authenticity is certified by this document is the result of work by an international cadre of skilled artisans. After the plate art was created in the United States, a fine ceramic transfer, incorporating pigments carefully chosen to faithfully re-create the vibrant beauty of the artist's original, was created in France and Germany and permanently fired into the fine Japanese porcelain plate body at more than 1,4600 Fahrenheit by talented craftsmen and craftswomen in the United States.
