Winter Shadows Collection -- "Moonlight Shadows" by artist Persis Clation Weirs. Sixth issue in the series. Bradford Exchange 1995. Plate size approx 8.8 by 6.5 oval shaped. Suggested Retail $60.00
The dramatic lines of moonlight and stark shadow transform the ancient forest into a colorless maze. The winter's forest at night is an eerie place for humans, who all-too-easily imagine merciless, fanged demons watching from the dark with burning amber eyes. Perhaps that is the reason why humans have feared and hated the gentle, noble wolf for centuries.
The wolves' heavy, hoary fur blends with the shadows as they romp boisterously with their brothers and sisters. We shiver at their quavering howls, unable to accept that their chorus is a shared moment amid the loving bonds of the pack. We see only the kill and not the amazing coordination and flawless teamwork coming together for survival. Truly the wolf is one of Nature's most remarkable and beautiful children...and in our blind fear and envy, man has taken the wolf to the brink of permanent extinction.
Persis Clayton Weirs lifts the veil of fear from our eyes, showing us an accurate portrait of this lordly, loving creature. With astonishing realism and detail, she opens our hearts to the truth...and to the preservation of the wolf.
The creation of the fine collector's plate you have just acquired and whose authenticity is certified by this document is the result of work by an international cadre of skilled artisans. After the plate art was created in the United States, a fine ceramic transfer, incorporating pigments carefully chosen to faithfully re-create the vibrant beauty of the artist's original, was created in France and Germany and permanently fired into the fine Japanese porcelain plate body at more than 1,460° Fahrenheit by talented craftsmen and craftswomen in the United States.
