Snap! It was only a faint sound
in the distance, but the joyful frolic of two whitetail fawns immediately ceases. Motionless, a natural survival mechanism kicks-in, honed by evolution, instinct and a protective mother's example. It has served these youngsters well.

Choosing a spot deep in the woods, where fallen trees, mossy growth and vines provide cover, the mother deer left her fawns to forage. Soon the youngsters will be old enough to join her in the more open and hazardous lower forest. Mushrooms are abundant there. Tasty treats for whitetails!

At five weeks old, the fawns still bear white markings on their brown coats. When fully grown, the spots will disappear. For now, however, these markings are nature's way of providing perfect camouflage. In the darkness of the forest, the dappled spots appear as sunrays through the forest trees.

Nature's grand design of protection for its smallest creatures is tenderly depicted in "Forest Hideaway," Plate Two in acclaimed artist Kevin Daniel's Woodland Innocents collection. It's a glimpse into a hidden forest sanctuary seldom seen by man! Enjoy!

The creation of the fine collector's plate you have just acquired and whose authenticity is certified by this document is the result of work by an international cadre of skilled artisans. After the plate art was created in the United States, a fine ceramic transfer, incorporating pigments carefully chosen to faithfully re-create the vibrant beauty of the artist's original, was created in France and Germany and permanently fired into the fine Japanese porcelain plate body at more than 1,460° Fahrenheit by talented craftsmen and craftswomen in the United States.
