Taking part in a magnificent and mysterious autum ritual, three brilliantly marked wood ducks streak across a radiant twilight sky. They are winging away on their migration south—joining literally thousands of other waterfowl.

A true creature of forest and marsh, the wood duck builds its nest high on a tree branch, and flies through and among trees with agility. It prefers to roost on trees as well, although for safety from predators wood ducks often gather together at night on open water.

In "Twilight Flight," first plate in his Woodland Wings collection, artist Jim Hansel demonstrates his mastery of wildlife art and the effects of light. He sets the cobalt blue evening sky and the latticed windows of a small fisherman's cabin ablaze with light from the setting sun. The stillness of the water and the open countryside give the portrait a feeling of silence and peace. One can imagine hearing only the rush of wings as the ducks take to the sky. Mr. Hansel's stirring vision makes us wish for wings and the freedom to take to the air ourselves. As re-created on fine porcelain, "Twilight Flight" will make your heart soar.

The creation of the fine collector's plate you have just acquired and whose authenticity is certified by this document is the result of work by an international cadre of skilled artisans. After the plate art was created in the United States, a fine ceramic transfer, incorporating pigments carefully chosen to faithfully re-create the vibrant beauty of the artist's original, was created in France and Germany and permanently fired into the fine Japanese porcelain plate body at more than 1,460° Fahrenheit by talented craftsmen and craftswomen in the United States.
